My Background
I have always taken an active part in sports.  From the age of 8, I have enjoyed a range of sports, representing my school and local teams in football, cricket, tennis, basketball and swimming.

I first started cycling when I was about 10 whilst with my parents around local trails.  This sparked my initial interest; by the age of 13 I was hooked, had joined Matlock Cycling Club and was developing my off-road skills.

I then rode a couple of cyclo-cross events and in 2001 I rode the National Cross Country Mountain Bike Series.  In 2002 I had my first coach, who introduced me to circuit racing and time trials.  Although mountain biking was still my main aim at the start of 2003, I was getting more and more interested on the road side of the sport, particularly time trials.

It was about that time I realised that it may be possible to make cycling my career.  I then started to focus a bit more on the road.  During 2003 I mostly rode Time Trials, a few local Road Races and some of the National Junior Series Road Races.

Towards the end of the season I was selected for the Welsh Junior Team for the Junior Tour of Ireland, Wales, and an International 2 Day Race in Koksijde, Belgium. From then on the focus has been primarily on Road Racing, however Time Trialling is still my strongest attribute.
